Nacogdoches Co. agriculture industry honored at annual banquet

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches is one of the state's top ten producing counties for agriculture. Monday night, representatives from different businesses in Nacogdoches showed their support at the 13th annual Nacogdoches County appreciation and awareness banquet. There are many dedicated residents who provide agriculture for the county who were honored. Texas Country Reporter host Bob Phillips was the guest speaker.

"There is one great thing about this area. You still have young people who grow up here and they want to be farmers, they want to have livestock, they want to want to grow food, and put food on people's tables. You don't find that in the Middle of Dallas or Houston," Bob Phillips said.

Four different awards were presented this year.

The Bubba Stokes Family was awarded Farm Family of the Year sponsored by Tipton Ford, Inc.

Roy Mills was awarded the Pete Smith Agricultural Pioneer sponsored by Heritage Land Bank.

Nacogdoches Farm Bureau received the Agribusiness of the Year Award sponsored by First Bank & Trust East Texas.

Stephen F. Austin's Elyce Rodewald received the Agriculture Educator of the Year award sponsored by Citizens 1st Bank.
