GRAPELAND, TX (KTRE) - It was after 10 P.M. on April 9 when the Grapeland City Council came to a decision on the future of the city's police chief, John Smith.
During an executive session at the monthly city council meeting, the council voted that chief smith would be terminated. He was currently on a 30-day suspension.
According to Mayor George Pierson, Smith walked out on the meeting before a decision was made.
The council has sent smith a letter stating he was fired.
The mayor would not give any specific details for smith's termination, but he released this following statement:
"It was a combination of several things. It was partially his aggressiveness and poor management skills. He had given up. He was in the office more and was supervising his men less."
Investigator Chuck Franklin will be acting chief. Discussion over a permanent chief will take place in July when the city discusses a new budget.
