Summer Fest Texas moving to downtown Lufkin

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Today during a press conference some exciting were announced for third annual Summer Fest in Lufkin.

One major change is that the event is moving from the expo center to three parking lots in downtown close to city hall.

The headlining act will be Son of a Sailor, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band.

There will also be a Live from Lufkin band competition, with eight bands being voted on to compete.

The winning band will get a grand prize of $1,000.

"We have so much talent in East Texas so being able to allow for eight bands to come and play and not only get out their name, but it is all done through social media so it helps getting out summer fest's name and the name of Lufkin. Hopefully it will spread like wildfire," said Executive Director of the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau, Tara Watson-Watkins.

Complete details of this year's festival can be found on the Summer Fest website.
