First Bark for Life event this Saturday at Ellen Trout Zoo

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter is hosting the first ever, Bark for Life race benefiting the American Cancer Society.

The event is this Saturday, April 13 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Ellen Trout Zoo, 402 Zoo Circle in Lufkin.

Dog owners can register to walk the one mile course with their pooch for just $20. Registration starts at 8:30 AM. Participants are asked to part at the Expo Center and walk over.

There will be a contest for best trick and best costume plus the weiner dog races and an agility course.

All owners with dogs participating in Bark for Life will need to bring paperwork showing their dog has a current rabies vaccination.

Animal Care Attendant at Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter, Sarah Mosley said, "well we really have just been trying to get the shelter out there so we've had a lot of success on Facebook so far with adoptions through that but we're really just trying to put the shelter out there to help them get a good word, all these animals a good home and we also wanted to help benefit a good cause which is the American Cancer Society."
