Kay Bailey Hutchison promotes book

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Former Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison was interviewed tonight at the Archie McDonald speaker series at Stephen f Austin State University.

Before tonight's event the senator met with her interviewer, Judy McDonald and SFA President Dr. Baker Patillo.

Hutchison said tonight was poignant as the late Dr. Archie McDonald helped her extensively with her newest book. It's titled, 'Unflinching Courage: Pioneering Women Who Shaped Texas'.

" I've written two books about women who have made such a mark on America, being the trail blazers and the barrier breakers and this one I wanted to be about the role women played in the 19th century in building what is the great spirit of Texas and the great state that it's become," said Hutchison.

Senator Hutchison's book won't officially be released until Monday, but she conducted book signings tonight, which she called appropriate since Nacogdoches is where so much of Texas history started.

When asked if she is still influential on Capitol Hill, Hutchison answered, " I still talk with my colleagues, but it's not to give advice." Hutchison recently returned from South Korea, but will spend through mid-May promoting her book.

"My book is important to me," said Hutchison.
