Women learn self-defense as part of sexual assault awareness month

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

As part of sexual assault awareness month, the Stephen F. Austin State University police department taught almost a dozen women the "Rape Aggression Defense Systems".

The instructors demonstrated different techniques women can use in the event of an assault, attack or kidnapping.

The "R.A.D Team" says it's important that women know they aren't teaching them how to fight back but teaching them how to stun their attacker and flee because that's the safest scenario.

The class is free for women ages 13 .
