LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin Independent School District Board of Trustees held a meeting Monday night to hire the sole finalist for superintendent of schools.
Dr. LaTonya Goffney received a standing ovation from every single board member after the final decision was made. She said she will be officially starting the position in June, but will be visiting the schools throughout the remainder of April and for the month of May.
She says she would like to get to know the teachers and students before she starts the new job.
"I am so excited. It's been kind of surreal and I'm pinching myself because this is just such a wonderful district and there are so many good things happening and to be considered is just a huge honor," Goffney said.
Goffney will be leaving her job as superintendent for Coldspring-Oakhurst Consolidated Independent School District. She worked in the COCISD for more than 14 years where she held several different positions.
