Ministers bring prayer cards to Kaufman County employees as investigation continues

KAUFMAN COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

No new charges have been filed in the investigation of the murders of the Kaufman County district attorney and his wife last month.

A former Kaufman County Justice of the Peace, Eric Williams, was arrested last weekend on a terroristic threat charge, but authorities have not named him as a murder suspect in the case.

In Kaufman Tuesday, several local ministers were on hand to provide their prayers to courthouse employees. Three ministers brought 175 prayer cards to the Kaufman Courthouse today, telling Kaufman County Judge Bruce Wood they hope their prayers are answered soon and that justice is delivered.

The ministers said they collected the cards for courthouse employees for just one reason.

"We wanted to ensure that they knew that they were in our prayers and in our thoughts," said Mother Diana Freeman of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. "In fact, I think they haven't left our thoughts."

The cards came out of last Friday's "doors open" day of prayer in 15 Terrell churches, and Mike and Cynthia McLelland's pastor said Tuesday collecting the cards has given his congregation closure.

"Of course, it's easy to say we're praying for you, but to present them cards with written prayers on them is a tangible way of saying we really are lifting you up in prayer and we care about what's going on," said Keith Head, pastor of Terrell's First United Methodist Church.

Judge Wood says he and all courthouse employees have felt the prayers of many these last few weeks.

"We need all over the community, all over the county, we do need this nightmare to start ending," Wood said.

As he hopes the investigation begins to wind down.

"I'm not involved in the day to day operations of the investigation," Wood said. "My hope is that they are moving forward. I believe they are and they're beginning, hopefully, to come to perhaps filing charges in the next few days."

A sheriff's spokesman says they're still running down leads and the investigation continues. Williams remains in the Kaufman County Jail on $3 million bond.
