What East Texans can do to help West

There are several ways for East Texans to lend a helping hand to emergency workers and residents in West.

The Blood Center East Texas has sent platelets to Austin to help patients who have been taken from Waco to Austin for treatment, according to a company press release.

Although The Blood Center's primary service area is the 26-county Texas Gulf Coast region, including six East Texas counties, the organization is prepared to assist other regions when needed, as supplies are available.

The Blood Center East Texas, 3520 North University Drive in Nacogdoches, and the Lufkin Neighborhood Donor Center, 202 South Franklin Street, are both is open today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to take blood donations.

The GENCO FCU branch in Lufkin is accepting monetary donation for the citizens of West. The account is in the name of the Red Cross. Anyone interested in donation can call 254-776-9550.
