BOSTON (RNN) – In the first major sporting event since the bombs exploded at the Boston Marathon, the Bruins hosted the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday evening.
The NHL team honored the victims of the terrorist attack in a pregame ceremony. The crowd, many of them carrying signs of encouragement for the city, gave the teams a standing ovation.
When local celebrity Rene Rancourt began to sing the national anthem, the more than 17,000 fans joined in and their volume overtook the singer.
Rancourt stepped back from the microphone, letting the crowd sing.
