Injured hiker airlifted out of Paria Canyon

COCONINO COUNTY, AZ (CBS5) -

The Department of Public Safety Air Rescue helicopter along with the Coconino County Sheriff's Office responded to an injured hiker in Paria Canyon after they received a message from their personal locator beacon.

The beacon warning was received late Thursday, April 18 of a hiker in distress. DPS Air Rescue was able to locate injured hiker, but because of disappearing daylight they were unable to rescue the hikers until the next morning.

Air Rescue was able to fly through the narrow canyon the next morning and landed at the river bottom. The two hikers, one injured, and their dog were then airlifted out and flown to the Page Airport.

At the airport they were treated and turned over to the CCSO search and rescue personnel.
