Marine Corps veteran Earl H. Bryant, a Hometown Hero

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

United States Marine Corps veteran Earl H. Bryant passed away on February 13, 1990 but his son, Earl C. Bryant, would like to share his father's story.

Bryant says his late father fought in the Korean mountains and the Vietnam jungles during the wars.

"He told me and my sister that he would not want anybody to go through what he had to go through over there," said the younger Bryant, 47.

Bryant says although he will never know what his father went through, he remembers fearsome flashbacks would haunt his dad every now and then.

"He didn't like to talk about it because I guess it brought back a lot of memories," he said.

Bryant says his family's roots in the U.S. Marine Corps run deep. His grandfather and all of his uncles were Marines as well.

"I remember my uncles and my dad, all of them sitting around when we were little kids talking; my dad told my uncles real quick he didn't want to talk about the war. He lost a lot of friends."

Bryant says his father was just 41-years-old when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and he cannot help to wonder if it was from the Agent Orange spray.

"I'm very proud of him and I love him. He fought for our freedom and he was an amazing man."
