MARION COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A wild car chase that included a helicopter search ended when the fugitive was found under a pile of clothes at his mother's home.

It started late last night when Marion County officials were alerted that 43-year-old Wesley Lawton was causing a disturbance at a Lake o' the Pines residence.

When deputies confronted him, Lawton sped away in a stolen vehicle, armed with a 9 millimeter pistol.

Lawton was chased to a dead end road where investigators say he turned and rammed a police car.

He crashed off of Victory Road and fled on foot.

A Department of Public Safety helicopter was called in to search, and Lawton was later found at his mother's home hiding under a pile of clothes.

Lawton is charged with assault of a public official, evading arrest, and felon in possession of a firearm.

His mother, Helene Lawton, is also jailed on charges of obstructing an arrest.
