After Nacogdoches Police officers attempted to stop a 27-year-old Nacogdoches man for a traffic violation on Martin Luther King Blvd., he led them on a brief high-speed chase before he wrecked his vehicle on Press Road.

When officers located Darrell Ferdinand, they allegedly found a small amount of marijuana in his possession.

Ferdinand is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a state-jail felony charge of evading arrest or detention in a vehicle and two Class B misdemeanor charges - possession of marijuana under 2 ounces and driving with an invalid driver's license with a previous conviction for no insurance. No bail has been set at this time.

The car chase took place after an NPD officer tried to pull Ferdinand over for a traffic violation at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday. Ferdinand fled at a high rate of speed, and the officers lost sight his vehicle briefly before finding it wrecked in the 3200 block of Press Road. Ferdinand was arrested at the scene without any further incident and taken to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
