Lufkin mayor proclaims Monday Nurses' Day

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Memorial Hospital honored its nurses today to celebrate National Nurses Week.

Lufkin Mayor Bob Brown proclaimed Monday as Nurses Day in Lufkin. These nurses will be celebrated all week long to serve as an annual reminder that they serve in more than 200 different specialty positions for patients.

Memorial's chaplain blessed each nurse's hands as they are used as an instrument in health when taking care of others.

"The blessing of the hands is a symbolization of the healing of nursing, the taking care of patients and with the spirit of the lord helping to do the best they can," said Stephanie Strickland, the Director of Perioperative Services.

The nurses and staff at Memorial will extend the spirit of caring this week by conducting donation drives for non-profit organizations in Lufkin.
