Kaufman Co. police chief rescued after falling down well

From the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office:

KAUFMAN COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - On Tuesday at approximately 8:56 a.m. Kaufman County Sheriff's Office dispatch received a report of loose livestock on FM 2860 approximately halfway between US Hwy 175 and FM 1985. KSO dispatch dispatched a deputy to put the cows up and Kemp Police Chief Jimmy Council also responded to assist in putting up the cattle. Chief Council checked on-scene with KSO dispatch at 9:05 a.m.

A short time later, Chief Council was able to contact Kemp City Hall by cell phone text message that he had fallen in an abandoned water well. Deputies located where Chief Council had fallen in and used a long dog leash to reach Chief Council until fire-rescue personnel arrived on scene. It appears as though Chief Council fell 15-20 feet before bracing himself. Rescue personnel from the Kemp Volunteer Fire Department and the Kaufman Fire Department extricated Chief Council from the well at approximately 10:02 a.m.

Chief Council appeared to have minor injuries and was transported by EMS to the hospital to be checked out.

Officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office, Kaufman County Constable's Office in Precinct 4 and Precinct 1, Mabank Police Department, and Mabank Fire Department also responded to the scene and assisted in various aspects of the rescue.
