City of Lufkin holding free self-defense class

Posted: Updated:
LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

This Saturday, the City of Lufkin's Parks and Recreation Center invites the community to a free self-defense class.

Fourth degree black-belt instructor Gabriella Roberts wants to bring an awareness to Angelina County and how we can each protect ourselves from any type of attack. Roberts will present safety, prevention and awareness tips.

The free class will as lo include jui-jitsu techniques to help overcome fears.

"I'm looking and focusing on having mom and daughter teams come out because looking at statistics even to this day currently it shows that from 12 to 14-year-olds are getting sexually assaulted more than say 20, and 30, and 40-year-olds, so it's very important for mothers to be aware of that," Roberts said.

The class will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. For more information, contact Cassell Todd at 936-630-0535.
