NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County deputies took 10 illegal immigrants into custody and have alerted immigration officials following an early morning traffic stop Tuesday.
According to the sheriff's office report, a deputy pulled over a Nissan SUV at 1:15 a.m. on US 59 South. According to the report, the driver appeared nervous and the deputy "believed criminal activity was afoot" and got consent to search the vehicle.
The deputy reported finding nine people inside the vehicle and "items consistent with illegal alien smuggling," according to the report.
Deputies took all 10 illegal immigrants to the Nacogdoches County Jail for holding.
According to Sheriff Jason Bridges, the Department of Homeland Security had told deputies the vehicle may be smuggling illegal immigrants.
Bridges said all 10 are men and believed to be from Mexico.
