Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Harley Patterson and Rev. Dempsey Compton officiating.Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Cleon Compton 69 passed away Thursday, August 26, 2004, in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Mr. Compton was born September 3, 1934, in Weches, Texas to Thadeus Lee and Levice Boykin Compton.He served his country in the United States Navy, was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, member of the Breakfast Lions Club, the Nacogdoches Athletic Boosters Club, and past President of the Nacogdoches Jaycees.Mr. Compton coached Nacogdoches Little League Baseball for twelve years, East Texas Semi Pro League for ten years, and Girls Softball for thirteen years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thadeus and Levice Compton; and brothers, James Lee Compton and Thomas McDonald Compton.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Saxton Compton of Nacogdoches, Texas; daughters, Brenda L Cedars and husband Fred of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Ava C. “Karlene” Denney of Nacogdoches, Texas; sons, Dempsey Ray Compton and wife Darla of Nacogdoches, Texas and Michael Cleon Compton and wife of Susan also of Nacogdoches, Texas; brothers, John Acy Compton of Alto, Texas, Joe Compton of Arlington, Texas, and on Compton of Irving, Texas; sisters, Myrtle Ruth Peacock of Weches, Texas and Hazel Irene Compton of Nacogdoches, Texas; grandchildren,Kandie Korando and husband Brad, Kimberley Leleux, Erica Permenter, Courtney Compton, Sarah Compton, Clancey Compton, Tyler Compton, Clayton Compton, Seth Denney, Kagan Denney, Tannery Compton, Cy Compton, Eli Compton, and Dora Noyes; and great-grandchild, Abigail Noyes.
Memorials in his honor may be made to the SFASU Baseball program.Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.
