Flooding, strong winds and hail ravage metro Atlanta

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The mayor of Flowery Branch has issued a state of emergency due to catastrophic flooding around the city.

A slow-moving storm system is responsible for flooding, trees down and hail across metro Atlanta Sunday.

Flash flooding has been an ongoing problem due to constant rain over the same areas. The worst of the flooding seen so far has been in Hall County. Atlanta Highway in Flowery Branch was one of the roadways covered with a few feet of water over it.

In Dawson County near Dawsonville, flood waters were so strong the road collapsed under the pressure.

The storms also brought trees down onto cars along Highway 92 in south Fulton County. Minor injuries were reported.

Numerous creeks and rivers are also at or approaching their flood stages with all the rain we've seen.
