Inmate who died in Mohave County Jail identified

KINGMAN, AZ (CBS5) -

Authorities continue to investigate the death of a Mohave County Jail inmate.

Mohave County sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter said Gilberto Avila Jr., 28, of Bullhead City, died early Saturday after being found unresponsive in the jail's medical unit.

Avila Jr. was later pronounced dead. He was being housed in the jail's medical unit for possible existing medical issues.

Avila was initially taken into custody by Bullhead City police and booked into the jail May 13 on suspicion of domestic violence, assault, disorderly conduct and criminal damage - all misdemeanors.

Autopsy are pending, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.
