SFA baseball earns 6 seed; Dozier named SLC player of the year

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The Stephen F. Austin baseball team, which won its regular season finale on Sunday afternoon against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, will be the six seed in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament. The Jacks, who are making their fifth straight tournament appearance, will open play against third seeded Oral Roberts. SFA swept the Golden Eagles in the regular season, but all three games were decided by two runs or less. The Jacks and Oral Roberts will kick off the tourney on Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock.

SFA shortstop Hunter Dozier received a well earned honor on Monday afternoon. The junior has been named the Southland Conference player and hitter of the year. Dozier currently leads the league in home runs, RBI, doubles, slugging percentage, and batting average. His stats in three of those categories are also in the national top five, while his 17 homers are the most of any shortstop in the country. Reliever Brett Higginbotham meanwhile has been named the SLC relief pitcher of the year.
