SFA baseball drops first round game at SLC tournament

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Oral Roberts left fielder Logan Domenico had three hits and drove in two runs to help lead the Golden Eagles to a 4-2 victory over Stephen F. Austin in its debut in the Southland Conference baseball tournament Wednesday morning at Constellation Field.

Domenico drove in the team's first run with a single to center field that scored center fielder Kevin Cho in the bottom of the third inning. That tied the score 1-1. ORU got two more runs in the fourth inning to break the tie thanks to RBI doubles by second baseman Joey Migliaccio and right fielder Austen Colt.

SFA got one run back in the sixth on Max Lamantia's fifth home run of the season, but Domenco plated Cho with a single to left the bottom of the seventh to give the Golden Eagles a two-run lead. Cho finished the game with two of ORU's nine hits.

ORU starter Alex Gonzalez, the Southland pitcher of the year, gave up two runs on seven hits, but walked an uncharacteristic four batters with only one strike out. He earned the win to improve to 9-5 on the year. Chase Greening was pegged with the loss after giving up all four ORU runs on nine hits. He struck out four and walked one in dropping to 4-6.

SFA was led at the plate by shortstop Hunter Dozier, the Southland player of the year, catcher Joseph Olson and second baseman Freddy Villalobos, who each had two hits.

SFA will now face Central Arkansas in an elimination game on Thursday morning.
