Angelina Co. man's agave plant towers over top of his home

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - It's not a plant you typically find in your run-of-the-mill flower bed. And this agave plant isn't afraid to stand out.

C.R. Shilling said it seems like the plant just sprung up over night and now he estimates it's around 35 feet tall, towering over the top of his home. Shilling says he's never seen an agave plant this tall and hopes to watch it grow even taller.

"Back years ago in the Navajo Indians they used it even for food, you can actually pull that thorn out and use it as a sewing, they used it to sew, to make brooms out of it so it's got several uses," Shilling said.

Agave plants are most well-known for being used to make tequila.
