Ramp closure planned for U.S. 84 in Joaquin

LUFKIN, TX (News Release) -

The contractor for the U.S. 84 construction project in front of the schools at Joaquin will be closing the westbound ramp the week of May 27 to accommodate work in the area. Motorists will be required to use SH 7 to continue on U.S. 84 until further notice.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the ramp will remain closed until the job is completed in spring 2014. The contractor for $5.3 rehabilitation project, Longview Bridge and Road, Ltd., started work in March. The job consists of rebuilding almost two and a half miles of U.S. 84 in front of the schools from just east of Morris Creek to SH 7.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and use caution when traveling through this and all work zones. To avoid delays use alternate routes when possible. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
