LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Newton man who stole purses from two women coming out of a Lufkin restaurant in December pleaded guilty to the crime Tuesday.

Trent Dion Land, 21, accepted a 15-year prison sentence in District Judge Barry Bryan's courtroom.

According to a previous report, Land and another man ran up to two women as they were walking through the parking lot of Another Broken Egg and took their purses. They were seen leaving in a car driven by another woman.

An eyewitness followed the purse snatchers and the woman lost control of the car and drove into a ditch on US 69 South. Land and another man took off into a nearby wooded area.

Land was arrested near FM 326 later that day following a two-hour manhunt.

The other suspect, Joseph Wayne Finley Jr., 21, has waived his right to a jury in the case. Another hearing in the case has not yet been scheduled.
