CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - A Houston County grand jury has indicted a Kennard woman accused of taking her two grandchildren during a custody dispute in March.

Bonnie Miller, 48, is charged with two counts of interfering with child custody and two counts of kidnapping.

Miller was arrested a couple days after an Amber Alert was issued for 2-year-old Nehaeh Kimora Simpson and 1-year-old Jordan Malik Simpson. Fort Worth police arrested her on Friday after finding her car in the 900 block of East Richmond Street. They then found Miller hiding the children and herself in a house near where the vehicle was located.

The custody dispute took place after the children's mother died in late December. The father has custody of the children and took them to the grandmother's house for a Christmas visit. When he returned Christmas Day to pick up his children, the grandmother refused to give them up.

A court order was issued listing the father as the sole managing conservator. During the time when the court proceedings initiated and were being finalized, the grandmother left the county with both children.

The grand jury also indicted Laura Doss, 38, of Alto, on a charge of DWI with a child. According to DPS, Doss was driving on State Highway 7 East in Houston County when she hydroplaned and hit a tree in March.

A trooper arrived at the scene and saw prescription pills in the vehicle and conducted a sobriety test with Doss, which she failed, according to the trooper.

The trooper arrested Doss on a charge of DWI with a child passenger, because she had a four-year-old in the vehicle.
