Lufkin man survives vehicle ejection after allegedly texting and driving

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A man may feel lucky to be alive after getting ejected from his car and landing on his head on the road after he lost control while texting and driving, according to a witness.

Trooper John Riggins said Alvaro Pedroza, 31, was driving a 2005 Ford Focus northbound on US 59 South in Nacogdoches County around 11:25 a.m. A witness said he was texting while driving and veered off the pavement, going over the grassy median and into southbound traffic, rolling over several times before the car came to a rest on its top.

Pedroza was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. His body landed head first on the edge of the pavement near a ditch.

Pedroza suffered two broken legs and road rash on his head. He is listed in stable condition at a Nacogdoches hospital.

He will be cited for no driver's license and not wearing a seatbelt.
