LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested a 34-year-old man and charged him with robbery after he allegedly shouted that he had AIDS and tried to bite a security officer after he was caught shoplifting at Sears Tuesday afternoon.

Christopher Lee Carr, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County jail on a second-degree felony charge of robbery. No bail has been set at this time.

According to the police report, the incident occurred at approximately 1:33 p.m. Tuesday at the Sears store located in the Lufkin Mall at 4600 S. Medford Drive. When the Lufkin Police officer arrived on the scene, a scared-looking shopper was pointing to the mall entrance.

The officer entered the north east entrance to the mall and saw several people wrestling about 50 yards away. When the LPD officer got closer, he saw a handcuffed man laying on the floor, according to the police report.

The store's loss prevention officer and a mall security supervisor explained that a man later identified as Carr entered the Sears store and two security guards watching real-time surveillance footage spotted the man take six ratchet sets valued at $218.94 each and hide them in a bag bag, according to the police report.

Then when Carr allegedly left the store without paying for the tools, the two security officers confronted him and tried to detain him until police officers arrived on the scene. The report stated that Carr tried to flee and began fighting with the two security guards.

Carr allegedly pushed both men and tried to punch them. The security supervisor told the Lufkin Police officer that she had been in her office when she heard a loud crash caused by Carr knocking over a trash can and rushed to help the security guards.

"While she was trying to subdue the subject, who has a lengthy criminal history for theft, Carr yelled at her that he has AIDS and began barking and trying to bit [the security supervisor]," the report stated.

Eventually, the security supervisor was able to handcuff Carr.

The police report also stated, "Carr is in fact HIV positive at his own admission."

Carr was charged with robbery because several witnesses said he tried to bite one of the security guards. In addition, Carr allegedly put the security guard in imminent fear of bodily injury because of the possibility of bodily fluids being transferred.
