Nacogdoches man arrested in brother's house fire

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches Police have arrested a man who reportedly admitted to burning his and his brother's house Wednesday afternoon.

According to the police report, the victim said his brother set fire to their residence. When officers arrived, the suspect, Benjamin Duguay, 17, said he was the one responsible for initiating the fire.

He is charged with first-degree arson.

In an interview with Fire Marshal Del Birdwell on Wednesday, he said the home was fully involved when firefighters arrived on the scene. Although fire crews contained the fire quickly, Birdwell said the home was heavily damaged as a result of the blaze. He also said the investigation revealed multiple points of ignition.

According to his arrest affidavit, Duguay walked toward an officer at the scene and said he started the fire and he wanted to go to jail. Once he was detained, officers found him to have a lighter and medicinal liquid, according to the affidavit.

His bail is set at $50,000.
