Lightning believed to be the cause of house fire in N. Nacogdoches County

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Lightning is believed to have caused a fire at a vacant house in northern Nacogdoches County.

Neighbors close to the brick house on County Road 836, south of Farm Road 204, say they saw a flash and heard a loud clap of thunder right before the fire broke out.

The absentee landowners are Jack and Freeda Birdwell who live in Lake Jackson.

Numerous volunteer fire departments assisted in putting out the blaze.

A lot of smoke sent firefighters back and forth for new air tanks.

Several fire lines were placed on the house.

Response to the fire was tremendous as it happened as volunteers were getting off work.

Wet roads and rain didn't get in the way of them playing a role in putting the fire out and protecting nearby property.
