Nacogdoches day care honors 4 year-old fire victim with tree

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Less than a week since the tragic death of a 4 year-old boy from Nacogdoches, his former day care and friends have found a way to honor him.

The Adventure Island Day Care's Pre-K students planted a tree in honor of Dane Shaw.

Shaw along with his grandmother, Gina Langley were killed in an early morning house fire last Sunday.

Shaw's family was at the tree planting and said Dane's name will never go away.

"The community's outpouring, the community's support and the love that they have shown; this tree is almost a culmination of that because it will go on forever," said Dane's grandfather, Doug Shaw.

Dane's family is asking that everyone in attendance at Saturday's Texas Blueberry Festival to wear blue.

They want to take a photo at the park pavilion at 9 a.m. with the entire community.
