PHOENIX (CBS5) -

CBS 5 News has obtained a letter from Jerice Hunter, the Valley mom facing charges in her 5-year-old's disappearance, to a church member who claims he has evidence that will help her.

Hunter is in jail on first-degree murder and child abuse charges in the death of her daughter, Jhessye Shockley, according to police.

In a letter to a pastor at the Pentecostal Deliverance church in Peoria, Hunter said, "I'm extremely anxious to view the information you've so graciously provided [my attorney] for me."

In the letter, Hunter claims, "My children who are in CPS custody have been repeatedly abused in those foster homes and they've been moved four different times during the last year."

Hunter also claims one child suffered a broken arm. [Click here to read the full letter]

The letter was provided to CBS 5 News by the pastor, who says Hunter sent it to him. CBS 5 News has not been able to authenticate the letter, and has no verification by Child Protective Services about these claims. CPS does not talk about specific cases for privacy reasons.

Soon after October 2011, when Hunter reported Jhessye missing, police announced that Hunter was the main focus in her daughter's disappearance.

Police and the FBI searched Hunter's home six weeks after Jhessye was reported missing, looking for clues in the girl's disappearance.

Police believe Hunter kept Jhessye in the closet and tortured her. One of Jhessye's older sisters told police the closet where Jhessye was kept "looked like a grave and smelled like dead people."

In June, investigators ended their landfill search for Jhessye that began on Feb. 6.

Investigators said they were unable to recover any evidence from the Butterfield Landfill, where they believed Jhessye Shockley's body or evidence leading to her body might be found.
