LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - It's the first of its kind in East Texas and one of three in the state.
Joseph's House, an end of life residential care facility for those receiving hospice care, recently opened in May and had a soft opening Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
The facility offers fully furnished bedrooms for each resident and provides in home hospice care for those that are nearing the end of their lives.
"Ours is for those folks that can stay in the home and hospice comes in and they can do their home services there, but for some reason they can't, or they do not have a caregiver or they don't have a place to stay or they can't afford a nursing home. That type of thing," Denise Bennefield, the facility director, said.
Residents at Joseph's House have to be registered at a hospice center of their choice and Bennefield says it's a great way for people to be comfortable as they near the end of their lives.
