New class of Nashville officers is largest since 1971

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Monday night's Metro police graduation class will be the largest in more than 40 years, according to city officials.

The 80 new officers will receive their badges and take the oath of service during a ceremony that begins at 6 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 7594 Old Hickory Blvd.

The new officers will spend the next five to six months riding with and learning from veteran officers as they rotate among the seven precincts.

The city says that over the past 42 years, this class is second in size only to the group of 96 new officers who graduated from training in December 1971.
