GROVETON, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Groveton Police Department are investigating a May 21 incident in which a 1960 International pickup was stolen out of a hay pasture. The International truck was recovered Saturday off Beef Road, which is 5 miles outside of Groveton.
Chief John E. Raiford of the Groveton Police Department said they didn't get the call about the stolen pickup until the next day. He said the suspect or suspects tried to load both the International pickup and a car onto a dark blue Chevrolet flatbed in the 1981-88 model year range.
However, for some reason, the thief or thieves were only able to leave the pasture with the International pickup. The car was left in the pasture.
Later, the owner of the pickup saw it going through town on the back of the flatbed. The owner chased the suspect or suspects through town, but was unable to keep up with them.
Raiford said his department is currently still looking for the suspect or suspects, and if anyone sees the late model flatbed Chevrolet, they should contact the Groveton Police Department at (936) 642-1255 or the Trinity County Sheriff's Office at (936) 642-1424.
