MOUNT ENTERPRISE, TX (KTRE) -

Rusk County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a 24-year-old Mount Enterprise man Monday for first-degree felony murder after he got into an altercation with his brother and shot him.

Brian Jerome Townsend is still being held in the Rusk County Jail. His bail has been set at $500,000.

According to a press release from the Rusk County Sheriff's Office, deputies from the agency were dispatched to a house in the 15000 block of County Road 3167 at about 6:34 a.m. Monday.

"According to the reportee, two subjects later found to be brothers were involved in an altercation, which later left one of the subjects deceased," the press release stated.

The victim was identified as Townsend's brother, Alonzo Lewis, 32. A spokesman for the Rusk County Sheriff's Office would only say that Lewis was shot; he declined to go into any further detail about the weapon or the shooting incident.

The press release said the Rusk County District Attorney's Office and the Texas Rangers will be assisting with the ongoing investigation.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
