DPS still trying to ID 2 of the 3 people killed in head-on south of Lovelady

HOUSTON COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Three people have died in a head-on collision south of Lovelady on State Highway 19 Wednesday morning.

According to the accident report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, only one of the people killed in the wreck has been identified at this time. Deirdre Lester, a 59-year-old nurse from Lovelady was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:30 a.m. by a Houston County justice of the peace.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:25 a.m. Wednesday about nine-tenths of a mile from Lovelady. A 1998 Dodge Neon was traveling north on Highway 19 when it crossed the center line of the highway and struck the 1994 Acura driven by Lester head on, according to the accident report.

Both cars were smashed almost beyond recognition, and the Dodge burst into flames. The Dodge was still on fire when emergency personnel arrived on the scene. DPS troopers have yet to identify the two occupants of the Dodge, a man and a woman. Both [people were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at the same time as Lester.

According to the accident report, all three of the people involved were wearing their seatbelts.

The scene was cleared by 9:30 a.m.
