With Angelina College head coach Jeff Livin on hand along with numerous other scouts and personnel, over 150 east Texas baseball players showcased their skills today at Roadrunner field. A representative from the New York Mets was suppose to be at the tryout, but couldn't make it because of a family emergency. Livin who was evaluating for both the Roadrunners and Mets put the players through numerous fielding and hitting drills. The tryout was for anyone aged 16 and older, including high school seniors who just graduated.

The last week for former Stephen F. Austin shortstop Hunter Dozier has been dream like. Today it got even better. Dozier has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Baseball America, All American teams. the SFA all time leader in hits and doubles becomes the first Jack to receive first team honors from the NCBWA.

District 14-5A recently released its all-district team and awards, and four Lufkin Panthers were recognized. Pitcher Tyler Stubblefield who has signed to play for Texas A&M next season, shortstop Gunnar Quick, and first baseman Cort mcPherson were all named to the first team. Meanwhile, Timmy Martinez was named the newcomer of the year.
