Dasher, the people-sized pooch

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

We'd like you to meet Dasher, a 2-year-old mixed breed dog.

Dasher is a people-sized dog, pushing 120 pounds but don't let his size fool you. He's a sweet and friendly pooch.
Director of the Winnie Berry Humane Society, Paula Divello says, "He is sweetness and light. He is not food aggressive. He loves other dogs."

But Dasher does like to go on unauthorized adventures.

"He's an escape artist though," said Divello. "If you have a fenced yard it's going to have to be a very tall privacy fence. We would do really well with a family who walks their dogs. He'd make a great inside dog."

Dasher's family history is a mystery but the staff here at the Humane Society is going to find out. They took a DNA test Thursday and in two weeks we'll know exactly what breed he is and the exact percentages.

"We have no idea what Dasher is," said Divello. "There's a lot of guesses: bernese mountain dog, mastiff mix, labrador. He's a great dog. He's one of our big dogs. We've been having a problem getting our big dogs into homes they don't move quite as quickly so it's very helpful when we get one adopted because then we can either transfer one that may be short on time or we can take in an owner surrender."

To find out how you can adopt our furry friend Dasher. Call the Winnie Berry Humane Society at 936-639-1880.

Tar-covered tires stick to parking lot of Lufkin tire shop

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
