LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin Juneteenth Celebration gets bigger and better every year.
Saturday a parade at 11 A.M. will kick off the festivities at Brandon Park.
Families are in store for live music, food, dancing, and entertainment for the kids including giveaways.
Juneteenth is the day Texas slaves heard news of their freedom.
Now more than a hundred years later, there's reason for the whole community to celebrate.
"It's about celebrating things in life that wouldn't be possible if they hadn't gone through it," said event organizer, Randy Horn.
The actual holiday is Wednesday June 19. There will be a special program held at the North Lufkin Hope Center. It's free to the community and starts at 11 A.M.
