PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A woman walking against traffic on Interstate 10 near Wild Horse Pass ignited a series of events involving three other vehicles.

The 61-year-old woman was walking on the inside lane of eastbound I-10 just before midnight when she was struck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Nissan SUV subsequently stopped in the center lane, where it was struck by a commercial vehicle. Another SUV then struck the debris and was slightly damaged.

Two people in the Nissan suffered minor injuries.

The crash closed the freeway until about 4:30 a.m. Friday.

A collision on the Loop 202 Santan Freeway at Kyrene Road in Chandler early Friday was also cleaned up by the start of the morning rush hour, the spokesman said.
