CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) -

Officers with the Crockett Police Department arrested a 22-year-old man Thursday in connection to an home invasion and assault by four masked men that occurred at a residence in the 300 block of North Durett Drive earlier that morning.

The Crockett Police Department is still investigating the case. Investigators have positively identified another of the four men, and are seeking him and the other two men.

Jeremy Owens, 21, of Crockett, is still being held in the Houston County Jail. He was charged with aggravated robbery, burglary of a habitation, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a controlled substance. He was also charged with possession of marijuana, which is a Class B misdemeanor.

According to a press release from the Crockett Police Department, four suspects wearing dark clothing and "bandana-type" masks forced their way into the home and assaulted two people. The suspects were armed during the incident, and they demanded money from the victims.

Both victims were assaulted with the weapon and had to receive medical attention for their injuries.

Immediately after responding to the 911 call, Crockett PD investigators were able to identify two of the four suspects - Owens and Keith Steele, 21, of Crockett. Although, Crockett PD officers took Owens into custody at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday, Steele is still at large. He has numerous outstanding felony warrants.

A neighbor who lived next to the two victims said that around 1:30 a.m., the victims came running out of the house and across the parking spots to her house, asking to use the phone to call 911. They were covered with blood.

After the 911 call was made, an anonymous tip was submitted saying the car that left the scene was seen pulling into a nearby motel.

"We set up surveillance on the motel and watched in until we were able to secure a search warrant," Police Chief David Cross said. "At that point, some of the subjects drove away from the motel and were apprehended."

Later Thursday, the Crockett Police Department executed a search warrant at the town's Economy Inn, where the suspects involved in the home invasion were believed to have been staying. As a result of the search warrant and evidence recovered from the hotel room, two other men were arrested.

Kenneth McCullough, 24, of Houston, and Chalove Hunter, 24, of Lufkin, were both arrested at the scene and charged with possession of a controlled substance, a state-jail felony, and possession of marijuana.

Anyone with any information about the whereabouts of Steele or the identity of the other two suspects in this case should call the Crockett Police Department at (936) 544-2021.

"I don't think this was an incident where they knew who the subjects were," Cross said. "They went in for a specific purpose. I don't think the public should be overly concerned about someone running around hitting random homes."

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
