Proud of East Texas: Tom Mallory

By Joan Hallmark joanhallmark@kltv.com

At the age of 89, Tom Mallory is still performing, as he has for over three quarters of a century.  This pioneer of Western Swing has played with some of the top musicians in the country and now has been inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame.

Mallory's career in music began early, with radio, live performances, and recordings. But when others like his friend Johnny Gimble went on to become famous, Mallory chose his family over fame.  For over 20 years Mallory operated a barber shop in Tyler, while continuing to play the music he loved, Texas Western Swing.
