SFA announces hiring of assistant women's basketball coach

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Jamila Ganter has been named assistant women's basketball coach announced Brandon Schneider Wednesday afternoon. Ganter replaces Damitria Buchanan who accepted an assistant coaching position at Texas Tech earlier this week.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Jamila Ganter (Coach G) to our coaching staff," Schneider said. "Over the past four years, she has played an integral role developing Liberty-Eylau into a state power, winning the state championship in 2010. Coach G has a reputation for being an outstanding guard coach and has strong recruiting ties in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. She will be a tremendous asset in many phases of our program."

Since 2009, Ganter has been the assistant to the head coach for the varsity girls basketball team at Liberty-Eylau Independent School District. Over the last four years the Lady Leopards won four district titles, appeared in four regional tournaments and advanced to the 2010 3A state championship game. This past season Liberty-Eylau went 17-4 en route to winning the 3A Region II District 15 title.

Prior to the high school ranks, Ganter was a student assistant coach and intern for the Texas A&M Aggies from 2007-08. While there Ganter was part of a Sweet 16 and Elite 8 appearance, as well as regular season (2007) and tournament champs (2008).

Ganter played at Texas A&M from 2003-2006, appearing in 79 career games. Ganter scored 141 points in her career while making 52-of-73 free throws.

Ganter graduated from Texas A&M in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
