LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Hempstead Police officers arrested a 47-year-old man for aggravated sexual assault of a child Tuesday in connection to a girl's allegations that he sexually assaulted her multiple times when she was between the ages of 8 and 13 when she lived in Groveton.

Dwight Arnold Wolf, of Groveton, is still being held in the Waller County Jail on a felony aggravated sexual assault of a child charge.

According to Erik Burse, a public information officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Groveton Police Department and the Texas Rangers started investigating the case after the girl, who is now 14, "made an outcry" to her doctor on June 7 and said that Wolf had sexually assaulted her on multiple times when she was between the ages of 8 and 13.

Burse said it is not uncommon for small police departments like Groveton's to request assistance from the Texas Rangers in investigating a criminal case. He said smaller departments often seek help from the Texas Rangers if they don't have the manpower or equipment to process and/or analyze evidence in a criminal case.

After the two agencies investigated the girl's allegations, an arrest warrant was issued out of Trinity County, and Hempstead Police officers picked Wolf up at his residence.
