PHOENIX (CBS5) -

More than 55,000 propane cylinders have been recalled because the may leak flammable gas or rupture unexpectedly.

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation, announced the recall Friday.

The cylinders, manufactured by The Lite Cylinder Company, Inc., are commonly used as portable fuel tanks for propane.

If you have one of the cylinders, PHMSA recommends:

  • Stop using the cylinder.
  • Close the valve.
  • Safely disconnect the cylinder after valves are closed.
  • Store the cylinders in a space that is well-ventilated and not enclosed.
  • Keep it away from all heat sources.

For more information, contact the Hazmat Information Center: (800) 767-4922 or visit PHMSA's cylinder recall page.
