DPS investigating immigration status of couple hospitalized in Nacogdoches Co. rollover

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A late night wreck Monday sent two people to a Nacogdoches hospital.

Around 10:30 p.m., an unidentified man in his 50s was driving a GMC van northbound on Highway 59, about a mile south of FM 2782. State Troopers said he lost control, causing the vehicle to cross the median and flip multiple times before landing in the ditch on the southbound side.

The male driver and a female passenger, also in her 50s, were taken by ambulance to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. The woman is the wife of the driver, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At the time of the wreck, no names could be released by DPS trooper Larry Linder.

Linder said they were not able to release any information other than the ages of the vehicle's occupants because it is possible they are illegal immigrants.

The only paperwork found on the couple were Mexican documents. A translator on scene was not able to get the two to discuss paperwork showing U.S. citizenship.

State Troopers are expected to talk to the crash victims in the hospital after concluding an onsite investigation.
