LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - After a brief search for a suspect in a wooded area off Lufkin's Ruth Street after Angelina County Sheriff's deputies caught a man in the act of stealing wire and scrap metal, authorities took a "person of interest" into custody Tuesday afternoon.
Ray Stubbs, an investigator with the ACSO, said the man was questioned and released but is still considered the only suspect in the case.
Pct. 1 Constable Tom Selman said that two ACSO deputies responded to a suspicious activity call in the Cedar Grove earlier Tuesday.
At the scene law enforcement authorities also recovered a pickup that was stolen from a residence off U.S. Highway 69 North several days ago.
