Angelina County Sheriff's Office getting a smart phone app

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - There's an app for everything and there will soon be an app for the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.

Today the commissioners court approved a monetary donation from Roger and Robin Mercer designated to the sheriff's office to pay for the cost of creating their own smart phone app.

Sheriff Greg Sanches says the app will send notifications to those who download the free app

Sanches says, "It'll put out push notifications of any information we have as a county law enforcement agency to help assist us in real time if we're looking for a wanted person or a lost child or if we have information that we just need to get out to the public we'll be able to do that and it'll be a good thing."

The commissioner's also approved nearly a $14,000 dollar grant for Lufkin Police and the sheriff's office to split in order to purchase 10 tasers, with each department getting five tasers.
